Glow Exfoliant was first learnt from a dermatologist that helped our founder, Jasmine, clear her 14 years of acne. Originally only with Salicylic acid, we improved the formula by adding Mandelic acid, a gentle AHA as well as adding Purslane/Portulaca extract to soothe skin and reduce sensitivity.

Not all salicylic acids are the same! While researching and testing to improve on Glow Exfoliant’s formula, Jasmine tested an encapsulated salicylic acid. With just one use, her whole face broke out into little bumps overnight! Thankfully, by using back the old formula, Jasmine was able to clear her major breakout.

You might ask about the alcohol in the formula. We have tried many versions without alcohol but it is just not as effective. The alcohol in the formula helps to kill bacteria as well as allow deeper penetration of the ingredients. This is the only product in Skinlycious with alcohol.

How To Use

For Specific Acne Spots

Wet cotton bud with solution and apply twice daily after cleansing. Suitable for both facial and body blemishes.

For Full Face Exfoliant

Wet cotton pad with solution and apply a thin even layer in the evening over the entire face. No need to rinse. Once skin condition improves, reduce frequency to no more than 3 times a week.

Avoid eye area. If tingling sensation is unbearable, apply Skinlycious Hydrating Serum over.

Visible peeling might be experienced initially but intensity will reduce after more frequent usage.

If peeling is unbearable, reduce frequency of use. Otherwise, switch to Clarifying Serum for spot correction.

FAQ

Q1. How long do I need to use before I can see results?
A1. You will see existing pimples or bumpy skin flatten with a few applications. But for new acne to stop popping, it needs time to work as a skin cell cycle is 28 days. For best results, use together with Calming Cleanser and Hydrating Serum. A good estimate is 2-3 months. Some people might experience faster results but usually those are the milder cases. After 3 months, if you still do not see any improvement, it’s best you consult a doctor.

Q2. I experienced some biting/tingling sensation when I applied this. Does this mean that it’s not suitable?
A2. It’s common to experience some biting sensation when you first use Glow Exfoliant as it’s acidic. This sensation will reduce in intensity with more frequent usage. Apply Hydrating Serum over it if you find it unbearable and the sensation will go away. However, if uncomfortable sensation last more than 5mins even after applying Hydrating Serum, you are probably not suited for this product. Switch to Clarifying Serum.

Q3. I experienced some peeling. Is it normal?
A3. Yes, it’s normal to experience some mild peeling when you first use it. However, if you experience excessive peeling, you might be over-zealous applying Glow Exfoliant. Either put less drops of the solution or reduce usage to once a day. Thereafter, gradually step up the dosage. The peeling will reduce as your skin gets used to acids and dead skin cells are regularly removed.

Q4. Why is there alcohol in Glow Exfoliant?
A4. It is needed to kill bacteria that causes acne and to allow deeper penetration of our products in our skin. We tried formulating without alcohol, but it is not as effective. The rest of our products are alcohol free. 

Q5. I’m Pregnant. Can I Use Your Products?
A5. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Our Glow Exfoliant contains Salicylic Acid, it’s better to be cautious when using this ingredient when pregnant. Although not widely proven, some studies suggest that it can potentially cause birth defects and should be avoided while you are pregnant.

We suggest to switch to Clarifying Serum as your spot corrector while you’re pregnant. The rest of our products are generally safe to use during your pregnancy. 

Q6. Does Glow Exfoliant work for fungal acne?
A6. Glow Exfoliant contains salicylic acid that worked best against yeast. However, it’s still recommended to do the half-face test to determine if any reactions will occur. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic agent used for fungal skin infections. It causes exfoliation of the skin’s stratum corneum layer, resulting in removing dead skin cells together with the fungi.

Also, using Calming Cleanser will help calm your skin and reduce redness while ridding your skin of daily grime and dead skin cells without leaving it dry or irritated. We recommend seeing a doctor to confirm if you are suffering from fungal acne. 

Q7. Can Glow Exfoliant help with my acne scars?
A7. If you are referring to dark or red marks, both Clarifying Serum and Glow Exfoliant can help to lighten those marks. If it’s pitted or deep scars, a consistent long usage of Glow Exfoliant will help to make the scars less obvious.

Q8. What’s the best way to apply Glow Exfoliant? I’m having trouble.
A8. Do not use your fingers to apply Glow Exfoliant directly. It doesn’t work as well as you will not get as much solution on the acne.
Use a cotton bud or cotton pad.

If you are like Jasmine, who prefers the cotton pad, this is what she does:
1. Take the four corners of the cotton pad and pinch it together.
2. Drip Glow Exfoliant on the flat top part of the cotton pad.
3. Spread it on your acne/pimples/whiteheads/blackheads and even those red/brown marks left when your acne is healing.
For cystic acne and blackheads, hold the cotton pad on the pimples longer, so that more solution is absorbed.
4. After using on one side of the face, you can inverse/flip it over and use it on the other side of your face. This helps to minimise bacteria spreading too.
