20s to 30s Skincare

When we thought that acne will be gone after our teen years, it either followed through or even newly popped up during our adulthood. Adult acne (defined as after 25 years of age) is pretty prevalent. In fact, dermatologists are reporting that they are seeing more adult acne cases over the years. In a study of 3305 French women (25 to 40 years of age), 41% of them had acne.

What causes Adult acne?

There’s no hard scientific evidence but possible factors could be genetics, stress, hormonal changes, pollution, unsuitable hair and skincare products, diet, lifestyle, possible medication side effect and undiagnosed medical condition.

Fundamentally, these factors lead to increased sebum / oil production in our skin, causing clogged pores, resulting in acne. Acne can be non-inflamed and remain as whiteheads/bumps or blackheads. Acne can also get inflamed by bacteria (bacterial acne) and in some cases by yeast (fungal acne), turning into pimples with pus or even cystic acne.

For those chronic acne cases, like our founder, Jasmine, who battled with acne for 14 years, you might just have the same kind of super acne-prone skin like our founder. Throughout Jasmine’s formulation process, she discovered many ingredients (concentration matters) that triggered increased sebum production in her skin. Hence, by coming up with a skincare line that doesn’t trigger her skin to produce excess sebum, Jasmine is able to cure her acne.

Understanding 20s to 30s’ Skin

Adult skin is less resilient than teen’s skin. Skin cell turnover rate slows down and heals slower as we age. Thus, you might observe that the red/brown post-acne marks takes longer to lighten compared to our teen years. From the age of 25, our skin starts showing signs of aging. So, even if we are battling with acne as an adult, we also need to take care of our skin to address premature aging like loss of collagen, pigmentations, wrinkles. In terms of difference between male and female structure, male skin is about 20% thicker, oilier and doesn’t age as early as female. Although there’s a slight difference in skin structure, there’s no need to differentiate skincare between both genders.

Skincare Routine for Clear Smooth Skin

If you are below the age of 25 and do not have fine lines and wrinkles, you can follow the routine for teens.

Please do use sunscreen as that will protect your skin from pre-mature aging and pigmentations. It is possible to get wrinkles at a young age if we didn’t take care of our skin when we were younger. Our founder, Jasmine, had a deep wrinkle on her forehead when she was only 24 years of age as she couldn’t find suitable skincare products for her acne skin since her teen days.

Thankfully, she was able to reverse the premature aging when she found an oil-free serum, which is now available as Skinlycious hydrating serum. Hence, this is why Jasmine emphasizes on having a good skincare routine from young.

If you don’t wish to use more than 3 steps in your routine, you can take reference to the below basic routines.

Do you know that many anti-acne products(not all) have anti-aging properties too?

Hence, the good news is that while we try to get rid of adult acne, we can multi-use our anti-acne products as anti-aging products. That is at least true for Skinlycious(can’t say for others) as both our anti-acne spot treatments, Blemish Corrector and Glow Exfoliant, when used on full face can help prevent signs of premature aging of skin.

Blemish Corrector is full of anti-oxidants that fight free radicals that ages skin. Full list of benefits here. It’s safe to apply twice a day everyday.

Glow Exfoliant helps to remove surface dead skin cells as well as penetrate deep into pores to dissolve the gunk. Hence, you can achieve the glass glow effect by using Glow Exfoliant on the whole face 2-3 times a week in the evening. We don’t recommend that you over-exfoliate as this might lead to thinner and sensitive skin. It’s fine to use Glow Exfoliant daily twice daily as a spot treatment.

Hydrating Serum has anti-aging properties too. It helps to reduce fine lines and plump up skin by holding water in the skin. The routine that we recommend aims to balance your skin sebum without drying it out, emphasising on strengthening your natural skin barrier, clearing adult acne by addressing the overproduction of sebum. We highly recommend double cleansing in the evening, even if you didn’t wear makeup.

Jasmine doesn’t believe in toners, hence Skinlycious does not offer toners. Jasmine also doesn’t believe in eye creams, hence Skinycious does not offer eye creams/gel. You can just apply Hydrating serum and Blemish Corrector around your eye area when you are applying them on the whole face. Skinlycious products are actually suitable for all skin types. Hence, you can continue to use Skinlycious products after your adult acne has cleared. Use it to maintain healthy clear skin and keep adult acne at bay. Below is our recommended routine.

We recommend adding a moisturiser with ceramides as ceramides start depleting in our 30s.

Ceramides, which are naturally found in our skin, is akin to the glue that hold the skin together and help to maintain skin moisture balance by repairing damaged skin lipid barrier.

Skinlycious moisturiser (coming soon) would contain ceramides and beneficial oils to address acne skin. We recommend that you still use hydrating serum as that hydrates while the moisturiser locks in the moisture.

"Finally found my drug-free acne solution"

I’ve suffered from Acne since I was 15. I’ve tried almost all the Acne products on the market but sadly, they don’t help at all.
I seek help from dermatologists and was on medication for almost 2 years and my skin became much better but once I stopped consuming, my pimple came back.
The before/after photo is just after 7 days of use with Skinlycious mini potent kit. I love using the Glow Exfoliant because it helps to cure my acne within a few days! I’ve used almost a month now and my skin looks good.
Would recommend people who have acne to give it a try.
